Whereas transformative adaptation and in the Climate Majority Project now we emphasize the strategic dimension of this so we sometimes talk about strategic adaptation thinks much more holistically thinks longer term looks upstream So if we think about flooding for example what do we need to do Well obviously we need to reduce our carbon emissions to stop there being such terrible hurricanes But also we need to do things like work on upland water management and upland land management right We need to work on the way that farmers farm so that the water doesn't just run straight off their fields into the rivers and shoot down into the cities and overwhelm everybody right So that's how one proceeds if one proceeds in a transformative or strategic way with one's adaptation And what we are saying in the Client Majority Project now is this is absolutely crucial and absolutely unavoidable Indeed we have to adapt but we have to do it in a smart way in a long-term thinking way in a way which is transformative and strategic and also compatible with deep adaptation as I described before We need to make sure that we are ready for what may be coming And the longer people pretend that we can keep this civilization staggering forward and just react shallowly and reactively the worse the calamity is going to be Thank you for giving an example of the reactive adaptation and transformative adaptation
