Discipline Why Society CAN'T Solve BIG Problems

Scott Peck who wrote The Road Less Traveled one of the- one of the- I believe one of the greatest books of the last century act- and he has an interesting definition of discipline He said "Discipline is putting the pain first." And he said in the book that the core pathology of most human beings who aren't functional psychologically functional is the- the lack of the capacity to delay gratification to put the pain first And I believe we have a whole society now that has the inability to delay gratification That's why we can't solve the debt problem or Social Security We can't solve the climate crisis We can't solve the democracy crisis because no one really is willing to put the pain first We just wanna delay the pain or have somebody else feel the pain instead of us
