Jim worked as a clinician and manager for VA Puget Sound American Lake Division for 25 years. He worked as clinician on an inpatient post traumatic treatment program and, in conjunction with the Northwest Outward Bound, managed a therapeutic rafting experience for veterans. Jim also managed a residential rehabilitation program for homeless veterans. He had an outpatient psychiatric practice. He was a clinical instructor for the Medex Northwest Physician Assistant Program at the University of Washington School of Medicine.
Prior to persuading his passion for medicine, Jim served in the military during which he was stationed in Viet Nam for 21 months with the 5th Special Forces Group. After the military, Jim worked as a seasonal National Park Ranger at Mt Rainier NP, Grand Canyon NP, Crater Lake NP, and Olympic NP.
Jim currently serves with The Mountaineers on the Carbon Footprint Reduction Committee, the Advisory Council, is a member of the Peak Society and a hike and backpack leader for the Tacoma Branch. He also serves on the Town of Steilacoom’s Parks and Environment Advisory Committee.
